A MATTER OF SCALE

Sandra Ross

Artist

My marks are loaded with memories of loved ones as I move across the white paper surface. Watching the fluid ink drip and flow, I remember them and my marks emerge as rocks, mountains and trees, floating... like stars in my hands...

mixed media course

Gain a deeper understanding of drawing at this short week course titled Square, Circle, Triangle.

During this course you will be given exercises to help realise your drawing potential by investigating the importance of these three simple geometric shapes.

You will experiment with different media, explore positive and negative shapes and patterns, draw organic form and use perspective techniques to articulate an imaginary architectural landscape in graphite.

The course is suitable for artists wanting to push their drawing boundaries, gain further skills or kick start their art practice.

biography

Lifelong love of art

Sandra Ross is a visual artist who primarily works in 2D media.

Her artwork grapples with loss and grief, as well as ideas of internal worlds where recovery is possible. Often narrative in form, these works are derived from her personal experiences and she uses natural form as a metaphor to describe her feelings.

An educator for over 35 years, she encourages others to develop their own art practice by offering short courses and workshops. She believes drawing is fundamental to an art practice.

Sandra completed a Bachelor of Education (Art) from City Art Institute (formerly Alexander Mackie CAE) Sydney in 1982, and a Masters of Art Visual Art from Queensland College of Art, Brisbane in 2002. Sandra has exhibited throughout Australia and has won numerous awards both locally and regionally.

She divides her time between developing her own art practice, while working part time at the Gympie Regional Gallery in Education and Public Programs.
